Dear Friends,

As you know or may not know, conguero, teacher, father and grandfather Vicente Lebron has been held in a Homeland Security prison for 22 days.  His attorney is working on several strategies for gain his release, but nothing is imminent.

On behalf of Vicente, his family and colleagues, I would like to thanks the many of you who have expressed support for Vicente, including sending donations.

At Ryles, Inman Square, Cambridge, on Wednesday July 16, there will be a benefit concert to raise funds for Vicente's legal bills and other expenses that are accruing while he can not work.

I can't announce the lineup yet, but Vicente was a member of Sophia's house band, and plays with many ensembles including the Either/Orchestra and Club D'Elf.  The music is sure to have the cream of the Latino and jazz music scenes in set bands and ad hoc configurations.

If you are interested in performing, let me know ASAP.  Also, if you are interested in helping out with running the event, please let me know that too.

Admission will be $10, but we encourage you to donate more directly on July 16 or by the following methods:

A spectacular and diverse lineup of musicians have volunteered to play a benefit show for conguero and teacher Vicente Lebron on Wednesday, July 16, at Ryles, Inman Square, Cambridge.  Doors will open at 7, music from 8 till closing at 1 am.  Entry is $10, although all are strongly encouraged to donate more.  All proceeds except pay for the bar staff will go to cover Vicente's legal and other expenses.

Vicente has been in a Homeland Security prison since June 9, with no date for release set.  He may face a lengthy process to get out and to be allowed to remain in the US, his home since 1970.

A limited number of tee-shirts with a striking graphic of Vicente (like the one on the poster) will be on sale for $25.  If you plan to come, arrive early as we anticipate a big turnout.
